ABOUT MIGRAINES
Migraines are a common health condition - with 190,000 migraine attacks in the UK every day1. Migraines affect around one in every five women and around one in every 15 men and usually begin in early adulthood.2
THE MIGRAINE STAGES
Unlike headaches, the location of pain for migraines is usually on one side of the head. Migraines often develop in distinct stages, although not everyone goes through all stages3:
Occur several hours or days before an attack
Symptoms can include3:
- Changes in mood and energy levels
- Changes in behaviour and appetite
Can last up to an hour. Symptoms include3:
- Flashes of lights
- Blind spots
Can last from four to 72 hours.
Symptoms include3:
- pulsating or throbbing pain on one side of the head
- nausea or vomiting
- extreme sensitivity to bright light and/or loud sounds
Resolution stage is when the headache and other symptoms gradually fade away3.
During this stage:
- you may feel tired for a few days afterwards1
